Permafrost lists Windows 10 64-bit, 16 GB RAM and 30 GB of available storage at both minimum and recommended settings. An 8 GB laptop is below the published minimum. These requirements are a hardware baseline, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate.
I rechecked the Steam requirements on 14 October 2026. The store page hardware-compatibility record reports category 0 for Steam Deck, meaning no published rating in that record. The 30 GB requirement is available disk space, not a measured installer download or current installed size.

How to read this on a laptop
Compare the CPU, GPU and RAM separately. A mobile GPU with a similar name is not automatically equivalent to the listed desktop card: power limits, cooling and sustained performance matter. Having 6 GB of VRAM alone does not establish a match. The publisher does not name an integrated GPU in the minimum requirements.
The store lists no native Mac or Linux build. Steam Deck compatibility is unrated in the checked store record, not Verified and not a confirmed Unsupported rating. The official known-issues post also says Linux/Proton is not officially supported.
Leave at least the published 30 GB free and allow additional room for updates. No exact download size, installed footprint, laptop benchmark or FPS target was verified for this page.
